Lessons In Love

Sensei's niece, who has lived with him for years after the untimely death of her parents in a car accident. She has a devoted and loving nature, and takes care of most domestic tasks from cooking to waking Sensei up in the morning. She can be found in her bedroom on weekend mornings.

Ami's best friend and roommate. She's often over at the Arakawa house for sleepovers, despite her open dislike for Sensei. Her air of quiet reserve is only occasionally disrupted, typically by the promise of watermelon. She can be found working at the shrine on weekend afternoons.

Ami's other closest friend, who also often comes by for sleepovers. She's very outgoing and bubbly in personality and does nothing to conceal her affection for Sensei. Her family is quite wealthy, but her total lack of snobbery makes that easy to forget. She can be found practicing at the dojo on weekend afternoons.

The smallest and quietest girl in Sensei's class, sitting in the back. She is very shy, letting her roommate and friend Ayane take the lead in most social situations, and typically wears her hair such that it conceals much of her face. She can be found working at the bar at night.

Student council president, Sensei's classroom assistant, and top student in her year. Makoto looks up to Sensei tremendously, wanting to be a teacher herself one day, and drinks in recognition and appreciation for her hard work. She can be found working at her family business at night.

A short tomboy who seems supplied with endless energy, Miku is the star of the school's soccer team. Alas, her athletic talents do not extend to her schoolwork, where thankfully her roommate has the ability and patience to help her through with tutoring. She can be found on the soccer field on weekend mornings.

A book-loving introvert who daydreams in class and often sits out of gym. She's heavier than the other girls and self-conscious about it, a state of affairs not helped by being bullied by Yumi. She can be found working at the library on weekend mornings.

Loves music and is a bit of a gamer. Rin is very relaxed and down to earth most of the time, but can be excitable or moody at other points. Very close with her roommate Futaba; the two often compare each other to sisters. She can be found working at the cafe on weekend mornings.

Fashionable and popular, but not in the least stuck-up, Chika is well-liked by her classmates. She's a big fan of idols, often following news about them on her phone instead of paying attention in class. She can be found working at the mall on weekend afternoons.

The class delinquent. Yumi is barely ever in class and tends to cause trouble when she is, such as through bullying Futaba. She's extremely hostile to Sensei for his attempts to discipline her and may have ties with the local Yakuza. She can be found wandering the streets on weekend afternoons.

Molly's Irish origin and immigration to Japan set her apart, but she doesn't let that (or anything) hold her back. President of the manga club and a hardcore gamer, Molly sees the world through a unique imaginative lens that alternately frustrates and endears.

If one word could describe Tsuneyo's life, it would be noodles. Having up until now lived a sheltered life and taught by her father, since his illness she has taken up his ramen shop and a great interest in all that she does not know about the outside world.

A socially adept country girl from Nara, Uta leverages both her people skills and confidence at the Maid Cafe. With the same upbeat energy she brings to karaoke, her maid persona Uta-chan knows just what to say to lighten both your heart AND your wallet.

Despite being best friends, Io and Uta couldn't be any more different. In stark contrast to the social butterfly Uta, Io finds other people - especially other girls - uncomfortable and weird. Beneath her antisocial exterior, however, lies an incredible talent for craftsmanship.

Otoha is a laid-back girl with that ineffable air of coolness, perhaps aided by her copious number of rings. She's an extremely talented musician who takes private lessons, but has to answer to parents who would really like her to focus more on her studies.

Nodoka is an academic superstar who humbles even Makoto in the competition for biggest brain around. Eccentric when amped on coffee, she may be the only person who loves reading more than her childhood friend Futaba -- especially stories of an intimate nature, which she also writes.

Touka was born into a very wealthy family and is unfamiliar with the day-to-day lives of those less fortunate than herself. The very definition of sheltered, Touka hopes Sensei will be her foot in the door to understanding the rest of Kumon-mi.

Yasu is a deeply religious girl and very open about her beliefs. Difficult to communicate with at first, Yasu has an endearing and unique brand of sweetness that hints at a deeper personality obscured behind her work.

Kirin is a member of the soccer team alongside Miku and her older sister, Karin. Extremely observant of everyone around her, Kirin has a mischievous streak and enjoys putting people off-balance with words or actions they don't expect.

An idealist with a heart of pink, Noriko loves justice, loud music, and Sensei. Her punk aesthetic hides both profound academic talent and tremendous kindness. That said, the passionate intensity she brings to the things she cares about can be intimidating.
